Government Shut Down is Unbiblical

I don't know if you've read much Jim Wallis, but the man knows his Bible.
His most recent blog post makes the case against the current government shutdown.
It's unbiblical.

Funny how nobody talks that way anymore.

It's unbiblical.  It doesn't jibe with the witness of scripture.  Government is not the problem.  It is not evil in and of itself.  Big government wasn't something that the Hebrew people were particularly fond of, but when David and Solomon ushered in an unprecedented growth in government, the people changed their minds.  In fact, they think of it as the golden years.  It's not the size, but the moral make up of government and its leaders that matters.  Good government is good.  Just government is better.  Government that looks out for the poor and oppressed while at the same time providing security and opportunity for everyone, now that's an ideal to strive for.  The problem is that so few politicians, particularly politicians in the tea party dominated Republican Party are aiming for that biblical goal.

To make a long story short, check out the blog Wallis wrote Why The Government Shutdown is Unbiblical.  See what you think.  And then I'd suggest we take his advice and hit the book(s) and pray for leaders who do the same.
